The City of Deer Park is honored and excited to announce its 125th Anniversary Celebration, and we are inviting all local citizens, Texas residents and guests nationwide to join us in the festivities!

Officially, our City will have been incorporated for 125 years as of December 20, 2017, so since we have a whole year to celebrate, we’re making the most of it. Each month, the City of Deer Park, the Deer Park Chamber of Commerce, the Deer Park Independent School District and other entities will hold special events, concerts and other community gatherings, made even better by emphasis on – and celebration of – the City’s history.

Deer Park is very proud of its place in Texas history. From the moment Simeon Henry West settled here in 1892, our area has experienced growth, weather-related and environmental challenges, revitalization with the arrival of Shell in 1928, and the strong and steady growth our residents have watched since our incorporation in 1948. For more information about our history as a City, explore the History of Deer Park section of our Web site, visit the Deer Park Public Library, and be on the lookout for our digital photo database, expected to launch this year!

Now, on to our special events! If you’ve ever visited our City, you know we have lots of family-friendly activities to look forward to, from holiday-based celebrations like Fourth Fest or Reindeer Park to a series of free concerts held weekly from May to August in Dow Park! If you love theater, we’re also home to one of the last remaining dinner theaters in the state, and we’ll have four Art Park Player productions throughout 2017 that you won’t want to miss. We’re also planning special receptions around the date of our anniversary, as well as historical presentations throughout the year.

The Deer Park Chamber of Commerce also has a lot going on, from their annual banquet to golf tournaments at our very own Battleground Golf Course to periodic luncheons, even large-scale community gatherings with live music and entertainment.

Finally, the Deer Park Independent School District will host an expanded Homecoming celebration in 2017, as well as other annual traditions like “Hello, Texas,” a chance for Deer Park High School students to showcase their musical talents.

Of course, that’s just the beginning of the exciting things going on during 2017. From the San Jacinto Day Festival and Battle Reenactment to the annual Strides for Schools Fun Run sponsored by Shell, there’s far too much to look forward to for us to fit on this page. Because we know you’ll want to stay up to date on all of our events, we encourage you to visit the Facebook pages below:

Thank you for your interest in our City and in our 125th anniversary celebration! We look forward to seeing you in Deer Park!

"An Evening with Simeon West, Celebrating 125 Years of Deer Park"

The City of Deer Park would like to cordially invite you to a special performance of “An Evening with Simeon West, Celebrating 125 Years of Deer Park.”

While admission is free, there are only a limited amount of seats left for Wednesday, April 5 and Thursday, April 6, so call the Art Park Players box office today to reserve your spot!

Each evening, the reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the program beginning at 6 p.m.

“We are so looking forward to sharing ‘An Evening with Simeon West’ with our citizens,” City Manager Jay Stokes said. “The cast consists of a lot of the City’s elected officials, administrators and staff members, as well as Deer Park Chamber of Commerce members and staff.

“Many of the cast have never participated in a production like this before. This is going to be a very fun event, and we hope our community will come participate with us!”

“An Evening with Simeon West” – written in honor of the 125th anniversary of the City by Lisa C. Bunse  – is a whimsical musical review of Simeon West and the founding of Deer Park.

Stokes said Susan Mele - Art Park Players Theater Supervisor – is preparing the group to put on a professional-caliber performance, featuring song and dance as well as insight into the founding and history of Deer Park.

“Our audiences won’t be walking into a regular history lesson – they’ll be engaged in what will certainly be a fun, exciting evening for everyone,” Mele said. “The individuals volunteering their time to be part of this production are taking part in a true labor of love – they are passionate about this community and telling our story.”

To reserve tickets, call the Art Park Players Box Office at 281-794-2448.
