Join the Parks and Recreation Department’s Art Park Players
for “The Wedding Singer,” a romantic musical comedy based on the 1998 film
starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore.
The production – which stars Matt Pena as “Robbie Hart” and
YouTube sensation Nicole Daniels as “Julia Sullivan” – starts Friday, July 6 at
the Municipal Court and Theater Building, located at 1302 Center Street.
“‘The Wedding Singer’ musical was inspired by the beloved
film of the same name, and audiences who enjoyed the movie are sure to enjoy
this show,” said David Eck, Theater Specialist and Director of the production.
“It’s the same story you know and love – the ‘Guy meets girl, Guy almost loses
girl to the wrong guy, Guy wins girl’ romance – but with lots of special
“Audiences will enjoy references to 1980s icons like Mr. T,
Ronald Raegan, Cindi Lauper and Billy Idol, as well as surprise cameos by Deer
Park elected officials and City leaders.”
Just like in the movie, Eck said the music featured in “The
Wedding Singer” will truly impress audiences, but in ways unique to Deer Park.
“Matt Pena, who played ‘Shrek’ last season, is actually in a
band, so he’ll be playing guitar and leading Robbie Hart’s band on stage,” he
said. “As well, Nicole Daniels has her own YouTube channel with videos that
have reached over two million people - her voice is absolutely incredible.”
Performances of “The Wedding Singer” will be held on July
6-8, 13-15 and 20-21. The performances on July 8 and 15 will be matinee
