The building department is a very important division here in Deer Park. Building permits help protect property values. Your home or business is an investment. If construction doesn’t comply with the building codes, the value of your investment could be reduced. Insurers may not cover work or damages caused by work performed without proper permits or inspections. Permitting allows the building official to reduce the potential hazards of unsafe construction to provide for public safety, health and welfare.
Our building department is led by our Chief Building Inspector, Larry Brotherton. He, along with the electrical and plumbing inspector, inspect all commercial and residential construction in Deer Park. This includes remodels, additions, storage sheds, swimming pools, etc. On commercial projects, before a permit can be issued they must review the complete set of plans and ensure that the plans are drawn according to the building code. During construction they inspect the work to ensure it is being constructed to code. Our inspectors have completed hours of training and education to receive their certifications and licenses including annual continuing education classes to stay on top of the current building codes and trends. With all the new growth in the City recently, the department keeps a full schedule of inspections on a daily basis.
The department also consist of two friendly, knowledgably permitting clerks that will be happy to answer your questions and assist you in pulling a permit.
